Crews responding to fire south of Austin airport


AUSTIN (KXAN) — Officials responded to a fire that jumped the road just south of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to the Mustang Ridge Police Department.

The Pilot Knob fire has burned at 36 acres and is 100% contained, as of 5:45 p.m., according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

The department said on social media around 1:30 p.m. that fire crews responded to the fire at U.S. 183 and FM 812. That’s near Dee Gabriel Collins Road southeast of Austin.

As of 1:45 p.m., the fire was at 20 acres and “spreading pretty quickly,” including jumping onto the road, according to police.
