Braves outfielder has 3-Word message for Hall of Fame inductee Andruw Jones
Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Harris II sent a message to former Braves center fielder Andruw Jones after the Baseball Writers’ Association of America voted him into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Jones entered the Hall of Fame with 78.4% of ballots voting him in, making him the first player from Curacao to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Harris took to X (formerly Twitter) to shoutout Jones’ number, which Atlanta retired in 2023.
“Lets Goooooo 25,” Harris wrote, followed by a saluting emoji.
Harris, a native of the Atlanta area, is a longtime Braves fan, and has followed in Jones’ footsteps in captaining the Braves’ outfield.
When Did Andruw Jones Play for the Atlanta Braves?
Jones spent the majority of his 17-season MLB career with the Braves, featuring for the club in 12 different seasons.
His best days came in Atlanta, as he made all five of his All-Star Game appearances with the Braves. He also won 10 consecutive Gold Glove awards with the team from 1998-2007along with a Silver Slugger award. The Silver Slugger came in 2005, the same year he finished as the runner-up in NL MVP voting behind Albert Pujols.
During his time with Atlanta, Jones hit 368 home runs and drove in 1,117 RBIs. He had a .839 OPS with the team, and accrued 61.0 bWAR throughout his Braves tenure.
What Other Teams Did Andruw Jones Play For?
Jones left the Braves after the 2007 season, joining the Dodgers on a two-year, $36.2 million contract. The worst season of his career followed, as he posted just a .505 OPS through 75 games and 238 plate appearances. The Dodgers released him at the end of the season, and he went on to play with the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees in the final four seasons of his career.
Ultimately, Jones retired having hit 434 home runs, recorded 1,289 RBIs and with an .823 OPS. He will go down as one of the best defensive center fielders of all time, and has a well deserved spot in the Hall of Fame.
