Netflix Poland Unveils Comedy Detective Movie & First Look At TV Adaptation Of Beloved Polish Novel ‘The Doll’
Netflix Poland has unveiled a comedy movie about a detective agency for women and a first look at its TV adaptation of beloved Polish novel The Doll.
In the latest of Netflix’s global events, a number of which are taking place this week, the streamer has unveiled Revenge. Starring Vanessa Aleksander and Izabela Kuna, the comedy is about a detective agency for women accusing their partners of betrayal.
In Poland, which is one of Netflix’s highest priority European nations and one in which it has a base, the streamer has also published a first-look image of its series adaptation of Bolesław Prus’ Polish classic The Doll, which features Sandra Drzymalska and Tomasz Schuchardt entangled in a complicated and tense story against the backdrop of 19th century Warsaw.
The Doll is one of a number of previously-announced Netflix Poland projects championed today in Warsaw including Lead Children, which follows a determined doctor (Joanna Kulig) attempting a heroic fight against a lead poisoning epidemic. That one was today revealed to be launching February 11.
Netflix Poland also announced the title for its biopic of rock guitarist Jan Borysewicz, which will be called Less of a Stranger and air later this year. On the docket also in Poland is Jan P. Matuszyński’s first Netflix movie Saint, Netflix’s first medical procedural in the region, Anaesthesia, and a second season of Mothers of Penguins.
On the unscripted side, Love is Blind Poland will launch later this year, as the franchise continues to expand.
“This year we aim to surprise our audience with even more variety – including new genres across our Polish original productions and creators with whom we are working for the first time, on top of highly anticipated returning stories and characters,” said Łukasz Kłuskiewicz, Netflix’s CEE content lead.
Kłuskiewicz spoke to us late last year about Netflix’s decade in Poland and its most expensive production in the region of all time, Heweliusz. Kłuskiewicz leads content out of the CEE region.
