2PM’s Jang Wooyoung Reveals He Failed JYP Auditions Six Times Before Finally Becoming an Idol [CHECK OUT]

2PM member Jang Wooyoung is giving aspiring idols a candid look at the long road he traveled before making it into JYP Entertainment.

During a recent meeting with children who dream of becoming K-pop stars, the singer opened up about the repeated audition failures he experienced and offered advice that went beyond singing and dancing.

On Monday, August 24, a video titled “I Give It My All (Even Against Kids)” was uploaded to Jang Wooyoung’s YouTube channel. The 2PM member spent time with young idol hopefuls, dancing with them and answering questions about his own journey in the entertainment industry.

Wooyoung Failed Six JYP Auditions

One child asked Wooyoung when he first decided that he wanted to become an idol. The singer recalled that his dream began when he was around 11 or 12 years old. “It was around when I was 11 or 12 years old,” he said.

After deciding to pursue a career as an idol, Wooyoung explained that he took a systematic approach to improving his skills. Rather than giving up after unsuccessful auditions, he continued returning to JYP Entertainment’s audition process.

“After deciding I wanted to become an idol, I kept practicing and took JYP auditions every six months,” he recalled.

Wooyoung believed that six months would give him enough time to improve before trying again.

“I thought it would take about six months to improve, so I kept auditioning twice a year,” he said.

His persistence eventually paid off, but not before he faced several disappointments.

“I failed the JYP audition about six times. Then I passed on the seventh try and joined,” Wooyoung revealed.

The admission offered the young aspiring idols a realistic reminder that even established stars can face repeated rejection before getting their breakthrough.

Wooyoung Urges Young Fans Not to Focus Only on Training

During the conversation, one parent asked Wooyoung what aspiring idols should avoid doing if they want to enter the industry.

While acknowledging that talent and technical ability are essential, he encouraged young hopefuls not to let constant training consume their childhood.

“Singing, dancing, and skills are obviously very important, but there are many things you should not do as well. I hope you don’t focus only on practicing singing and dancing,” he said.

Instead, Wooyoung encouraged the children to enjoy the everyday experiences that can easily be overlooked while chasing a demanding dream.

“I hope you enjoy the time with friends around you, your parents, and time at home as much as possible,” he said.

‘What Kind of Singer Do I Want to Become?’

Wooyoung also encouraged the aspiring idols to think about their dreams as something that can develop gradually rather than something they need to define immediately.

“I hope you attach dreams like ‘What kind of songs do I like?’ or ‘What kind of singer do I want to become?’ one by one in the back,” he said.

His advice offered a more personal perspective on pursuing an entertainment career. While rigorous practice can help young performers develop their skills, Wooyoung suggested that their relationships, experiences and interests can also shape the artists they eventually become.

For Wooyoung, the journey from an 11- or 12-year-old with an idol dream to a successful member of 2PM was far from immediate. After six failed auditions, it was his seventh attempt that finally opened the door to JYP Entertainment, a story that now serves as a reminder to the next generation of aspiring K-pop stars that rejection does not necessarily mean the end of the dream.
