49ers receive concerning Christian McCaffrey news before Titans game
The San Francisco 49ers have overcome a lot of injury adversity this season and remain a legitimate contender in the NFC heading into Week 15 NFL action.
Early in the season, the 49ers saw both Brock Purdy and George Kittle go out for extended time. Nick Bosa also went down with a torn ACL that ended his season, while rookie pass rusher Mykel Williams also tore his ACL.
Despite all of those key injuries, San Francisco holds a 9-4 record heading into this week’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

Ahead of Sunday’s game against the Titans, the 49ers received more concerning injury news. This time, the news has to do with superstar running back Christian McCaffrey.
According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, McCaffrey’s status against Tennessee is in doubt due to a back injury.
“49ers RB Christian McCaffrey has been added to the injury report and is questionable for Sunday’s game versus the Titans due to a back injury,” Schefter wrote on X.
Of course, as 49ers fans are well aware of, McCaffrey missed most of last season due to multiple different injuries. He was only able to play in four total games.
So far in 2025, the going has been much smoother for the 29-year-old star. He has played in all 13 regular season game thus far, carrying the football 237 times for 849 yards and eight touchdowns. His 3.6 yards per carry average has been a bit concerning, but he has also chipped in 85 receptions for 806 yards and five scores in the passing game.
Hopefully, this is not the start of an injury-riddled stretch run to end the regular season. McCaffrey is an integral part of the offense that simply cannot be replaced.

More information is sure to come out soon about McCaffrey’s status against the Titans. Without him, the 49ers would turn to Brian Robinson Jr. as their lead back. He’s more than capable of shouldering the load for a week or two, but San Francisco will need a healthy McCaffrey on the field come playoff time.
A win over Tennessee would put the 49ers in great position in the NFC playoff picture. They’re also chasing the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West division race.
