TCL PlayCube Projector Brings Rotating Design, Google TV to Singapore
TCL’s PlayCube, a cube-shaped portable projector with a rotating hinge design, is now available in Singapore through retailers including Amazon.sg. The device runs Google TV with Netflix built in and pairs a 66Wh battery with 750 ISO lumens of brightness, letting users redirect the image onto a wall or ceiling without a stand.
The PlayCube first debuted as a concept at CES 2025 before rolling out across the US, UK and Europe through 2025, with TCL confirming broader distribution across Asia-Pacific markets. Its rotating design addresses a common pain point in the portable projector category, where placement and angle adjustment usually require a tripod or mount, positioning TCL against rivals like Samsung and XGIMI in the growing market for battery-powered home projectors.
Design and Display
The PlayCube is built from two connected modules, one housing the projection hardware and the other the speaker and battery, joined by a hinge that rotates up to 90 degrees. TCL has said the design was inspired by the Rubik’s Cube, and the compact housing measures 5.9 by 3.8 by 3.8 inches and weighs about 2.7 pounds.
The projector uses a 0.33-inch DMD DLP display engine with an RGB LED light source, delivering native 1920×1080 resolution with support for 4K content. TCL rates the brightness at 750 ISO lumens, a standardized measurement that reviewers at Yanko Design noted holds up better in dimmed rooms than the inflated brightness figures common among cheaper portable projectors. The device supports projection sizes from 30 to 150 inches and includes automatic focus, keystone correction and obstacle avoidance.
Software and Battery
The PlayCube runs Google TV out of the box, giving users access to Netflix, which is officially certified on the device, along with thousands of other streaming apps. It supports Chromecast for screen mirroring and includes Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.
Power comes from a built-in 66Wh battery, rated for up to three hours of cordless playback, with quick charging that TCL says can add an hour of use in about 30 minutes. The device includes a 5W speaker with Dolby Digital Plus support.
Pricing and Availability
The PlayCube retails for $799.99 in the United States, with some retailers listing it as low as $749.99. It has also launched in the UK at 799.99 British pounds and across parts of Europe since September 2025. In Singapore, the projector is listed on Amazon.sg, alongside TCL’s other projector models.
How It Compares
Reviewers at Projector Reviews have positioned the PlayCube against similarly priced rivals such as the Samsung Freestyle Plus and the XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser, noting that the PlayCube offers higher brightness and longer battery life than the XGIMI model, though its speaker system trails slightly behind. TechRadar’s review called the rotating design “brilliantly simple” for switching between desktop and wall projection without extra setup.
