Aaron Rodgers Blows Up on Mike McCarthy During Steelers-Browns ‘TNF’ Clash

Thanks to some smug postgame comments following a 20-3 Week 2 loss to the New England Patriots, everyone knows there’s at least a little tension between Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy.

After that game, Rodgers didn’t hesitate to take a subtle shot at McCarthy and his play-calling.

“In a game like today where there wasn’t a lot of flow to it, we need to be better — and it starts with me,” Rodgers said. “[I need to be better about] making sure Mike knows what’s working, what’s not working, our coaches know, and so we can call stuff that we feel like has a better chance (to win).”

Rogers’ frustration with McCarthy and his play-calling was on full display again during Week 4’s “Thursday Night Football” clash with the division rival Cleveland Browns.

Late in the first quarter, the Amazon Prime Video broadcast zoomed in on a frustrated Rodgers standing outside the Steelers huddle with his arms raised in confusion waiting for the play call. When it didn’t come on time, Rodgers responded with an expletive-laden outburst toward his head coach.

“What?” he shouted. “What the f***? Call it.”

Cameras then immediately panned to McCarthy, who appeared to mouth “f* a*” with a grin on his face.

“Thursday Night Football” play-by-play commentator Al Michaels acknowledged that Rodgers had similar issues last week in Pittsburgh’s 30-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, causing him to repeatedly look toward the sideline waiting for McCarthy to call a play.

Rodgers will presumably be asked about his outburst once Thursday’s game concludes.
