Justine Lupe To Lead Series In Development At Amazon
EXCLUSIVE: Amazon is developing the new romantic comedy series Settling, from creators Briana Pozner and Colin Lupe. Justine Lupe (Nobody Wants This, Succession) will lead the show, and Will Gluck (Anyone But You, Easy A) is attached to direct, sources tell Deadline.
The pilot script was optioned by Michael Eisner’s Tornante, which partnered with Olive Bridge and together brought the script to Amazon, which has optioned it for development, we hear.
Written by Pozner, Settling is a half-hour rom-com following Jessy (Justine Lupe), who has always seen commitment as limiting. Max finds it to be a lot of pressure. But when Jessy discovers she has early-onset menopause and Max undergoes late-onset isolation panic, the two find each other. Can they conquer their fears and commit to a forever? Settling is an opposites-attract half-hour comedy asking: Can we make a relationship work simply because we can’t afford for it not to?
Amazon declined to comment.
Executive producers include Pozner, Justine Lupe, Adam Londy for Tornante, Will Gluck and Madison Jones for Olive Bridge, Colin Lupe, and Leigh Kittay.
Pozner is a writer, director, and recent Black List x Women in Film Fellow whose writing has appeared in The New York Times and The Huffington Post, including her 2022 Modern Love essay, “Why Is My Husband Marrying Her?,” the most-read column of that year. She recently wrote and directed Following, a comedic short starring Melissa Joan Hart that has screened at multiple festivals. She also directed the Adult Swim micro-short series The Non-Essentials, which she co-created with Justine Lupe, Colin Lupe, and Josh Duvendeck.
Justine Lupe previously starred in HBO’s Succession as Willa Ferreya and in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and is currently in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This as Morgan, for which she received a Critics Choice nomination for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Gluck most recently directed and produced Sony Pictures’ box office hit, Anyone But You, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. He also helmed 2011’s Friends With Benefits and 2010’s Easy A, in addition to launching the Peter Rabbit franchise. His most recent project is the film One Night Only, starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, which was released by Universal Pictures in August.
