An Incendiary Device Was Detonated Outside a Federal Building In NYC. A Suspect Is In Custody

A man is in custody after allegedly detonating a device outside a federal building in New York City on Monday.
The incident in question took place outside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan. Citing sources familiar with the case, CBS News described the man as an anti-ICE activist who had a small cart with the slogan “ICE off our street” written on it.
“At this time, our Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating this as an anti-government attack on a federal facility,” FBI official James Barnacle told the outlet.
Officials who reacted to the explosion found a man with an airsoft rifle, carbon dioxide cartridges, halogen lighting and a helmet. He was allegedly launching fireworks outside the building and poured gasoline on the stairs before setting it on fire.
Firefighters said four people had minor injuries that were not life-threatening, with one being transported to a local hospital.
New York City Mayor said the incident was “deeply disturbing.”
“I’m relieved no one was seriously injured and that a suspect is in custody. My team is in touch with the NYPD and we will support the federal investigation. Our administration will continue to ensure that every New Yorker is safe in their city — and hold accountable any who threaten that,” he added in a social media post.
Citing four sources, NBC News detailed that the suspect has been identified as Andrew Arrabaca. They said he could have emotional issues and the NYPD Bomb Squad was analyzing the cart as precaution.
