Angel Reese Becomes First WNBA Player to Accomplish This Historic Feat
In her third season, Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese is quickly building an impressive resume for what could become a legendary WNBA career.
Reese recently captured a gold medal as part of Team USA at the FIBA World Cup in Berlin, Germany. She returned to form with the Dream in her recent games, continuing to rack up rebounds against the opposition.
On Saturday, the Dream hosted Reese’s former team, the Chicago Sky, and blew them out 106-81. In what has become a regular occurrence for her, Reese notched a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. She also recorded four assists, three blocks, and two steals.
Along the way, Reese achieved WNBA history, grabbing her 500th rebound of the season, the most rebounds for any player in a single season. It’s an incredible record and a testament to how much work she puts in regularly in the frontcourt for Atlanta.

According to StatMuse, Reese has compiled 505 rebounds this season in her historic performance, with two games left in Atlanta’s regular season. Over three seasons, she has 1,328 rebounds, averaging 12.6 rebounds per game and 442 rebounds per season.
That clearly puts her on track to break major records as her WNBA career continues to flourish. Tina Charles is currently the career rebounds leader with 4,262. Retiring WNBA legend Nneka Ogwumike is third on the all-time list with 3,621 rebounds.
The No. 24 players on that list had 2,444 rebounds in their WNBA careers, and Reese should be able to pass them within a few more seasons. If she plays another five or six seasons and doesn’t have setbacks, her rebounding skills give her a strong chance to potentially take over the top spot in the future.
Reese joined the Dream this offseason via a trade from her former team, the Chicago Sky, where she became an All-Star early, amid the team’s struggles to win games. Chicago didn’t reach the playoffs in her first two seasons there, and her fresh start with the Dream is proving much better for her.
Atlanta qualified for the playoffs weeks ago and is currently 28-14 as they approach the WNBA Playoffs. They sit at fourth place in the WNBA standings, which is a half game ahead of Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, and a half game behind A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces.
Reese has two more games to add to her historic rebounds total for this season. The Dream will visit the New York Liberty on Monday, Sept. 21, and then close out the regular-season slate with a second game at the Liberty on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
