Angel Reese sets Dream franchise record with perfect shooting night
Angel Reese made history with a flawless shooting performance in the Atlanta Dream’s 124-88 blowout win over the Los Angeles Sparks.
Reese recorded her league-leading 25th double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds, adding three steals and a season-high eight assists. The All-Star forward set a franchise milestone by shooting a perfect 9-of-9 from the floor.
Atlanta noted that Reese broke the team record for most field goals made in a game without missing.
Per The Associated Press, Reese became the third player in WNBA history to record a 20-point double-double without missing a shot. She also broke her own record for offensive rebounds in a season, surpassing her 172 recorded as a rookie in 2024.
Reese had shot a concerning 32.4% from the floor in her previous five games, including a 1-of-12 outing on Aug. 7, before Thursday’s scoring clinic. The 24-year-old also made a pair of 3-pointers, a notable feat since she’s 9-of-46 from behind the arc this season.
Atlanta quickly turned Thursday’s game into a rout, ending the first quarter with a 34-12 lead. Reese made eight field goals in the opening half for the Dream, who notched their highest single-game point tally in franchise history.
The Dream have averaged 104.6 points while winning four of their last five games, and they rank third in scoring this season behind the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces. At 23-13, they’re poised to return to the postseason after three straight first-round eliminations.
Reese will have a tough act to follow when Atlanta stays on the road to play the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday night.
