APD searching for suspect accused of punching woman in downtown Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department seeks public help to find a suspect who was accused of punching a woman downtown last weekend.

The alleged assault happened at 600 E. Seventh Street around 1 a.m. on Aug. 17. Police said the suspect “was involved in a verbal altercation” and was caught on surveillance footage and cellphone video “punching the woman in the jaw and rendering her unconscious.”

APD describes the suspect as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, has short black hair, dimples on his cheeks and possibly has a tattoo on his right forearm. He was last seen wearing a black, short sleeve button-up shirt, black pants and black shoes. He also had a pink wristband on his right wrist, and police said it was possibly from a club or an event.

Anyone who has any information about the case can submit an anonymous tip on the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program website or by calling 512-472-8477.
