Apple Original Films Acquires J S Mayank & David Carlyle’s Manuscript ‘Fallen Astronaut’; Scott Glassgold’s 1201 Films Producing
EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell us that Apple Original Films has rocketed in to pre-emptively acquire J S Mayank and David Carlyle’s manuscript, Fallen Astronaut. The auction prevails in publishing for the title. Verve is overseeing the book auction.
The manuscript for Fallen Astronaut began circulating with book publishers just last week.
We hear that Apple paid in the high six figures to take the book off the table.
Scott Glassgold and his 1201 Films are set to produce the movie for Apple which is billed as Gravity crossed with A Few Good Men. Mayank & Carlyle will be Executive Producers on the film.
We hear that the manuscript has a tech-forward concept including a crucial sequence with VR, which makes it a ripe project for Apple.
Mayank has sold original TV pilots to ABC, CBS and Syfy and has written on Netflix’s The Fame Game. Carlyle is currently readying his feature film The Conundrum. Together, Mayank and Carlyle directed, wrote, and showran the 6-part scripted audio series America 2.0 for Realm.
The sale of Fallen Astronaut marks another major project for Glassgold and his 1201 Films this year. Other high profile films set-up in 2025 include Ripped at 20th Century Studios with The Rock, After Shock at Lionsgate with Brandon Sklenar, Drift at Paramount / Skydance with Andy Muschietti, Code Black at Amazon with Jake Gyllenhaal, Fake Wedding at Amazon with Lily Reinhart, The Earthling at Sony with Zach Lipovsky & Adam Stein and Crush also at 20th based on a script by John Fischer.
Up next in production for Glassgold will be Drew Hancock’s My Wife and I Bought a Ranch at Amazon based on the acclaimed Harrison & Matt Query short story and subsequent novel. Glassgold assembled this slate with representatives at Verve Talent Agency .Mayank, Carlyle and Glassgold are all represented by Verve. Glassgold is also represented by Jeff Frankel.
Apple could not provide comment on the deal.
