Apple WWDC 2026: Liquid Glass Redesign, Siri AI Overhaul, and Major iOS 27 Updates Unveiled

Apple has unveiled a sweeping set of software updates at WWDC 2026, led by refinements to its “Liquid Glass” design language, a rebuilt Siri experience branded as Siri AI, and deeper integration of Apple Intelligence across its ecosystem.

The announcements, made at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, signal one of the company’s most ambitious software overhauls in recent years, spanning iOS, macOS, and core apps including Safari, Messages, and Mail.

Liquid Glass Design Gets Major Readability Upgrade

Apple has refined its Liquid Glass interface with a stronger focus on readability and usability.

The updated design introduces improved light diffusion, reducing visual distortion while preserving the translucent aesthetic. Users will also be able to control the effect through a new transparency slider, allowing adjustments from fully clear to heavily tinted modes.

Across the system, Apple has unified toolbars for a more consistent look, while sidebars now extend fully to the edge of application windows. App icons also feature a new refracted glass-style finish as part of the refreshed visual identity.

macOS “Golden Gate” Announced

Apple also confirmed the next version of macOS will be called Golden Gate, continuing its tradition of California-themed naming.

The announcement was delivered in a playful segment featuring Apple senior vice president Craig Federighi, who appeared in a comedic dual presentation, underscoring Apple’s lighter tone during the keynote.

More details about macOS Golden Gate’s features will be revealed later in the conference.

Stronger Trust and Safety Controls for Families

Apple introduced expanded parental controls aimed at improving child safety across its ecosystem.

Parents will now be able to approve specific app access lists and manage permissions over time, offering more granular control over child accounts.

In iOS 27, Apple is also introducing enhanced Communication Safety tools designed to detect and block sensitive content, including nudity, violence, and explicit material in shared images and videos.

These protections will extend across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other Apple devices.

Siri Rebuilt as “Siri AI”

One of the biggest announcements was the complete overhaul of Siri, now reintroduced as Siri AI.

The assistant has been redesigned to feel more conversational, expressive, and customizable, with new controls for tone, pacing, and voice style.

Siri AI also gains a dedicated app and deeper system integration, including Visual Intelligence capabilities that allow it to interpret images, identify locations, and respond contextually. Users can also generate written content directly through Siri.

Apple confirmed the upgraded assistant will extend beyond iPhone to CarPlay and AirPods, creating a more unified voice-driven experience across devices.

Apple Intelligence Expands Across iOS Apps

Apple Intelligence is being integrated more deeply into core apps, bringing AI-powered features across the system.

In Safari, users will get background monitoring of open tabs with alerts for meaningful changes. The browser can also adapt web pages dynamically and assist in password management by identifying compromised credentials.

Messages and Mail will receive smarter contextual reply suggestions, while Calendar will allow users to create events using natural language prompts.

The Home app will now consolidate notifications into grouped alerts and enable users to search video footage using descriptive queries.

In Shortcuts, Apple Intelligence can now build automation workflows simply from user descriptions, removing the need for manual setup.

A Key Moment in Apple’s Software Strategy

WWDC 2026 marks a major shift in Apple’s software direction, with AI now embedded across nearly every core product.

From a redesigned Siri AI to expanded system-wide intelligence and a refreshed visual language, Apple is positioning its ecosystem for a more deeply integrated, AI-assisted future.

The company is expected to reveal additional developer tools and platform updates throughout the remainder of the conference.
