Ariana Grande’s ‘Wicked’ Vocal Coach Reveals She Helped Other Actresses Prep For Glinda Audition

In the true spirit of Glinda the Good, Ariana Grande gave other actresses the resources to be ‘Popular’ at their Wicked audition.

The Oscar nominee’s longtime vocal coach Eric Vetro revealed that she brought other actresses to him in preparation for their auditions to play Glinda in Jon M. Chu‘s movie musical adaptation.

“She actually encouraged some of the other girls and said, ‘You really should go see Eric and work on it with him,’” he told People. “She brought one of the girls over and they sang together here. Isn’t that amazing?”

Vetro recalled Grande’s mom asked him, “‘Is she crazy? Why is she bringing people over for you to help them?’ And I said, ‘Well, because I think that’s just who she is. She’s very generous like that,’

“She was very confident in herself, too, but I think she also loved [Wicked] so much that she wanted the right person to get it,” added Vetro. “But I couldn’t believe it.”

The vocal coach even got a call from another actress Grande had referred to him. “I was like, ‘Damn, I can’t believe she’s encouraging other girls who are auditioning for this role.’ But that speaks to who she really is as a human being,” he said.

Grande ultimately landed the role of Glinda, opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba, earning her first Academy Award nomination earlier this year in the same category as her co-star.
