AUSTRALIAN casino operator Star Entertainment posted a smaller annual loss on Monday (Aug 31), helped by aggressive cost cuts under its broader restructuring programme.
The result reflected stabilised trading at The Star Sydney and stronger Gold Coast casino volumes, although Table Games revenue at The Star Sydney declined from a year earlier.
The company, however, warned that operating conditions remained challenging as it grapples with issues including a penalty from financial crime watchdog Austrac, while striving to return to profitability and meet its external debt obligations.
Shares of Star were down 3.9 per cent in early trading.
The company reported a statutory net loss after tax of A$307.3 million (US$220.03 million) for the fiscal year ended Jun 30, compared with a loss of A$427.9 million reported a year earlier. REUTERS
