Barrage of earthquakes suddenly strike Los Angeles

Dozens of earthquakes struck Southern California on Saturday — with a major cluster concentrated in South Los Angeles.

The sudden burst included a 2.7-magnitude quake in Westmont around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a 2.6-magnitude temblor in the same area around 4:30 p.m., according to the US Geological survey

More than 60 quakes in total hit the area, with many coming in at under magnitude 2.0.

Farther out, a pair of earthquakes were recorded southeast of Catalina Island within minutes of each other just before 4:15 a.m.

The surge occurred as a 3.4-magnitude quake struck in the Bay Area overnight Saturday, and after a 3.2-magnitude tremor rattled South Los Angeles less than a week ago.
