Billy Zane, Kevin Chapman & C.S. Lee Cast In Creature Feature ‘Wekiwa’

EXCLUSIVE: Billy Zane (Titanic), Kevin Chapman (Person of Interest) and C.S. Lee (Dexter) have joined Alex Trumble in Wekiwa, an original creature feature set in the summer of 1983, written and directed by Oscar-winning sound veteran Richard L. Anderson.

Anderson won an Academy Award for his sound work on Raiders of the Lost Ark, shared with Ben Burtt, and received further Oscar nominations for Poltergeist and Daylight, along with an Emmy for Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories. His nearly one hundred forty credits also include The Lion King.

Trumble stars as the showman who owns the island. The ensemble also includes Oliver Wyman, Ty Neckar, Tyler Steelman and newcomers Xhaania Wright and Caroline Jane West.

Salomé Breziner and Scott Rosenfelt produce. Principal photography begins at the beginning of September in the Orlando area.

The synopsis reads: “Summer, 1983. A showman (Trumble) has sunk every dollar he has into a resort on a Florida island the Seminole have warned about for three hundred years. A British documentary director (Zane) arrives with four beautiful young performers (Wright, West, Wyman, Neckar) to shoot the commercial that will save him. A county marine biologist arrives to find out what is wrong with the lagoon. Nobody on that island will say what is in the water. By Sunday, every one of them will wish they had.”

“We wanted the kind of film that sends an audience out grinning and a little afraid of the water,” said Breziner and Rosenfelt. “Richard has spent forty years teaching audiences to believe in things they hear before they ever see them. That instinct is all over this film.”

Rosenfelt’s executive producer credits include Home Alone, Mystic Pizza, Smoke Signals and Teen Wolf. Breziner is an independent producer and director whose credits include Feeling Randy, Cuck and Moop. She is in development on Sweating Bullets.
