Birmingham City FC Docuseries Scores At Amazon From ‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator Steven Knight & Minority Owner Tom Brady
Birmingham City FC were promoted to the English Championship soccer with six games to spare, a story that will be told in a new docuseries for Amazon.
The streamer is launching the untitled series this summer, after the club, which was relegated last season, sealed promotion at the first chance after beating Peterborough on Tuesday (April 8).
The series has an interesting group of producers including Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who is a lifelong Blues fan, who will exec produce, and Tom Brady, who bought a minority stake in the club in August 2023 and will produce via his Religion of Sports label. Sony’s Whisper, which counts former F1 driver David Coulthard as a co-founder, will produce alongside Religion of Sports.
Camera crews have followed the team, which was last in the English Premier League in 2011, coaching staff and ownership all season. This includes Brady and Birmingham City’s Chairman Tom Wagner, Co-Founder of Knighthead Capital Management. The series will also explore the cultural heritage of Birmingham City and the community around the club.
The project was conceived by Tom Brady and Religion of Sports co-founder, Gotham Chopra, who directs alongside Sven’s Claudia Corbisiero. Knight exec produces alongside Straight Outta Compton producer Matt Alvarez.
“Straight back up to the EFL championship, and not done yet,” Brady said on Instagram. “NFL fans are getting a crash course in the English football pyramid.”
It is Amazon’s latest football docuseries following All or Nothing: Arsenal, We Are Newcastle United and Doubters to Believers Liverpool FC: Klopp’s Era, which is currently not airing in the U.S.
