Chicago cubs fan slaps fellow supporter for sitting during national anthem

An older Chicago Cubs fan appeared to slap a younger spectator on the back of the head after he remained seated during the national anthem at Wrigley Field in footage that has been viewed millions of times on social media.

The video shows the older man, dressed in Cubs gear, leaning toward the seated spectator and seemingly ordering him to get up as “The Star-Spangled Banner” plays.

He then appears to speak into the younger man’s ear before striking the back of his head, prompting several nearby fans to turn toward the commotion. The spectator stands moments later and remains on his feet as the anthem continues.

The footage, which has garnered more than 7 million views on one post, does not show what happened before the exchange, and neither man has been publicly identified.

The confrontation occurred before Sunday’s game between the Cubs and the Minnesota Twins, TMZ reports.

Chicago police told the outlet they were aware of the widely circulated video but had not received a report about the incident as of Monday.
