CNB Arrests 100 Suspected Drug Offenders in Singapore, Over S$34,000 Worth of Drugs Seized in Islandwide Operation
Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested 100 suspected drug offenders and seized more than S$34,000 (US$26,300) worth of illegal drugs during an islandwide anti-drug operation conducted from July 12 to July 17.
The week-long enforcement operation covered multiple locations across Singapore, including Boon Lay, Ghim Moh, Jurong, Kallang, Tampines, Tengah, Toa Payoh, and Woodlands. Authorities also confiscated a small amount of cash believed to be linked to drug-related activities.
According to a CNB news release issued on Friday, July 17, officers seized approximately 859g of cannabis, 120g of heroin, 85g of Ice, 3g of ecstasy tablets, two Erimin-5 tablets, and S$252.75 in cash during the operation.
“The cannabis, heroin and Ice seized could potentially feed the addiction of 228 abusers for a week,” CNB said.
Investigations into the arrested suspects are still ongoing.
Woodlands Raid Leads to Arrest of Suspected Drug Trafficker
One of the key arrests involved a 28-year-old Singaporean man who was detained on Tuesday for suspected drug trafficking after CNB officers acted on intelligence they had received.
Officers searched the man’s motorcycle, which was parked near Woodlands Street 13, before carrying out a search of his residence in the vicinity of Segar Road. The operation resulted in the seizure of about 689g of cannabis, 9g of Ice, and various drug paraphernalia from the residential unit.
Nine Foreign Workers Arrested in Joint Dormitory Operation
On Thursday, July 16, CNB also led a joint enforcement operation at a foreign worker dormitory in the Jurong area. The operation targeted suspected drug abuse, drug trafficking, and other criminal and illicit activities.
The enforcement exercise involved officers from the Ministry of Manpower, Singapore Customs, and the Health Sciences Authority.
A total of nine Bangladeshi men, aged between 22 and 40, were arrested for suspected drug-related offenses. Among them, three were arrested for suspected drug trafficking and drug consumption offenses. The authorities also seized approximately 15g of cannabis during the operation.
CNB said investigations into the drug activities of all those arrested are continuing.
Trafficking Large Quantities of Cannabis Carries Mandatory Death Penalty
Under Section 5 of Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act, it is an offense to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug, or carry out any act that is preparatory to or intended for drug trafficking.
The authorities noted that anyone convicted of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty under Singapore law.
