Dale Jr. Set for Prestigious 2026 Motorsports Hall of Fame Induction
NASCAR team owner and former driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) Class of 2026, which features inductees from various forms of motorsports.
Jenna Fryer of The Associated Press has revealed the news on X. The induction ceremony will be held on March 9 and 10, 2026, in Daytona Beach. Dale Jr.’s induction comes more than two decades after his late father, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., was posthumously honored in the Class of 2002.
Dale Jr. has won two Xfinity Series Championships and has been associated with stock car racing for more than 20 years. Known for racing in the No. 8 car, he was elevated to the Cup Series, where his career peaked by winning eight races in 2003 and 2004. He is best known for being a two-time Daytona 500 champion.

His racing career eventually faded after the 2015 win at Phoenix Raceway, before he retired in 2017. Dale Jr. has already been inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2021. He currently co-owns the JR Motorsports Xfinity Series team.
Speaking of JRM, the team’s driver Sammy Smith came under the spotlight after rear-ending race leader Taylor Gray at Martinsville. The incident triggered a huge pile-up and highlighted Smith’s dangerous driving. Dale Jr. had a word with his driver and revealed that Smith acknowledged his mistake. Dale Jr. said:
“I called Sammy [Smith] on Sunday and I talked to him for a while and told him everything that I needed to tell him after I’d calmed down. You don’t know whether it sinks in yet. I can’t sit here and tell you, ‘Oh yeah, man, he’s sorry. He’s really sorry and, man, he’s going to do better.’
“But he says all those things. He says that he understands that he screwed up. He knows it gives himself a black eye, he gave JR Motorsports a black eye. He knows that we’re very disappointed in him.
“He certainly has tons of regret. But the work forward is a long road. He ain’t going to fix it in 12 hours. He’s got a lot of work to do to repair his reputation. That was a heavy blow. People look at him; I told him, I said, ‘Hey, everybody thinks you’re a spoiled punk. That’s what a lot of people think.'”
He added:
“And I said, for Sammy, I said, ‘You have to work harder because of that to prove you belong there. You can be frustrated about that or whatever, but it doesn’t change anything, you still have to go… if you want to be a racecar driver for the rest of your life, if you want this to work for you, you’re going to have to work harder and you’re going to have to walk the line straighter. And you can’t do sh*t like you did this past weekend. You can’t.'”
Dale Jr. will be inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame Class of 2026 alongside Sammy Swindell (open wheel), Kenny Roberts (motorcycles), Pete Lyons (at large), John Morton (sports cars), Steve Gibbs (drag racing), and Dave Villwock (powerboats).
