David Gordon Green Set To Helm Miramax Thriller ‘Supermax’
EXCLUSIVE: David Gordon Green has committed to direct Supermax, the high-concept thriller which Miramax has fast-tracked for a spring production start.
The action thriller was scripted by David Weil & David J. Rosen, whose team-ups include the TV series Hunters and Invasion. Miramax won the spec in a bidding battle last May with The Picture Company partners Alex Heineman & Andrew Rona producing.
Pic is described as a propulsive thriller with two FBI agents investigating a murder perpetrated within the world’s most secure prison.
Miramax’s CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, and COO Thom Zadra are attached as executive producers. The scribes are also executive producers, and Natalie Laine Williams is associate producer. Senior veep Spencer Ela overseeing. Casting is just getting underway.
Green will take on the feature next after wrapping for Amazon Scarpetta, based on the bestselling Patricia Cornwell series of novels about a medical examiner in Virginia. Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale and Ariana DeBose also star. Supermax reunites Green with co-writer Rosen, who created the Apple TV series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, which Green will direct and executive produce.
Weil will make his directing debut on Tyrant, a thriller set in the culinary world, with Amazon MGM and The Picture Company, and he’s scripting the Edward Berger-directed drama about Evan Gershkovich, the WSJ foreign correspondent who spent a year in a Russian prison on bogus spying charges.
Green is represented by CAA and Cinetic Media.
