David Zayas Returning For ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2
Dexter star David Zayas is returning to his fan-favorite role of Angel Batista in Showtime‘s Dexter: Resurrection‘s second season, sources confirm to Deadline.
Zayas was spotted shooting alongside series lead Michael C. Hall as the titular Dexter Morgan earlier today in Times Square—not the best place to shoot if you’re trying to keep a casting secret! But the question remains: Did Batista somehow survive his tragic Season 1 demise, or is he coming back as a ghost like other dead characters have? I can confirm that, sadly, Batista is still dead.
How they plan to bring back Batista has not yet been revealed. However, in multiple social media videos, Batista and Dexter are surrounded by extras (as well as locals and tourists trying to get selfies), showing the men finding one another and warmly embracing.
Even in the afterlife, Batista always brings la pasión. He was on location wearing a very tropical shirt, which the character is well known for, a straw fedora, and his leather gun shoulder holster. Zayas also posed for photos with showrunner/executive producer Clyde Phillips and executive producer Marcos Siega, featuring a special photo-bomb moment from EP Scott Reynolds. There’s also a shot of Zayas posing with his son, David Zayas Jr. Additionally, Uma Thurman, who is returning to the show as Charley, was spotted in the tourist hot spot shooting yesterday.
In the second season of Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter Morgan is caught between two killers – one notorious and the other terrorizing New York in ways no one ever anticipated – all while battling his greatest enemy yet: a mid-life crisis. Harrison (Jack Alcott) continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter.
A slew of first-look photos of the new season released by Showtime reveals Harrison has joined the family business in law enforcement.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will welcome Brian Cox as The New York Ripper, Dan Stevens as The Five Borough Killer, and Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard, who operates under the name The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger. Krysten Ritter is also coming back to the show; in what capacity is as yet unknown. There’s plenty of speculation about her character, Mia LaPierre aka Lady Vengeance, still being alive, but she could also return as a ghost if she has passed.
Franchise star Desmond Harrington, who first appeared in Season 1, was upped to series regular for Season 2, so expect to see a lot more Joey Quinn. The cast will also include newcomer Bokeem Woodbine as Capt. Mixon and Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon, and returning cast Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa and James Remar.
