‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Sets Season 2 Premiere & Drops Teaser Trailer

Showtime‘s Dexter: Resurrection will premiere its second season on October 30 on Paramount+, with serial killers and ghosts aplenty to help kick off the Halloween holiday.

A new teaser (above) also dropped, showing the titular Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) at the optometrist getting his vision exam. While testing his vision, Dexter sees words and numbers appear, including the Season 2 premiere date, as well as the words “He’s Back” and “He’s Sharper Than Ever,” after showing him playing with his knives.

Dexter is rocking a new pair of glasses; the frames are smoky black, and they look very typical of a serial killer. I don’t know what I would expect from him style-wise, but I guess a pair of Ray-Ban Aviator glasses might’ve been way too cool, making him stand out.

Last week, production on Season 2 headed to the most private spot in New York City—Times Square! One day, Hall was shooting scenes with Uma Thurman, who returns this season as Charley, and the next day with David Zayas, who plays the beloved OG Angel Batista. Seeing Zayas on set as Batista was quite a surprise to the fandom because the character was murdered by Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage) in Season 1.

But hey, this is a show that deals with ghosts and spirits all the time. James Remar has played Dexter’s deceased dad, Harry, since the original series. Dexter’s brother Brian Moser died in the original series, but Christian Camargo reprised the role in Dexter: Resurrection‘s first season. John Lithgow has returned a few times as the Trinity Killer, who died in the original series as well. The list is pretty endless. One thing I did confirm last week: Batista is definitely dead.

The October 30th premiere date is nearly a month after the franchise’s official 20th anniversary. The mothership series Dexter premiered on October 1, 2006.

From showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, the second season of Dexter: Resurrection finds Dexter Morgan (Hall) caught between two killers — one (Brian Cox) with decades of notoriety and a lifetime of kills behind him, and the other a fresh young face (Dan Stevens) terrorizing New York in ways no one has ever seen. Meanwhile, Dexter battles a new and unexpected enemy: a mid-life crisis. Harrison (Jack Alcott) continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter yet.

A slew of previously released first-look photos of the new season, released by Showtime, reveal that Harrison has joined the family business in law enforcement. He is now an officer with the NYPD.

The official cast list and who they will play can be found below.

The new serial killers: Brian Cox as The New York Ripper; Dan Stevens as The Five Borough Killer; and Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard, who operates under the name The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger. Krysten Ritter is also coming back to the show; in what capacity is as yet unknown. There’s plenty of speculation about her character, Mia LaPierre, aka Lady Vengeance, still being alive, but she could also return as a ghost.

Franchise star Desmond Harrington, who first appeared briefly in Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection, was upped to series regular for Season 2, so expect to see a lot more Joey Quinn. The cast will also include newcomer Bokeem Woodbine as Capt. Mixon and Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon, and returning cast Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, and James Remar.

These are the names that have been released officially, but if Season 1 is anything to go by, Season 2 should bring about some surprises.
