Dwayne Johnson Tried To Revive ‘The Odd Couple’ On Broadway With Kevin Hart

No stranger to delivering a live performance for thousands of screaming fans, Dwayne Johnson is looking to add a Broadway show to his extensive resume.

The Golden Globe nominee recently revealed that he’s “been working on my Broadway debut” for nearly three years, noting that he and longtime friend/collaborator Kevin Hart “were going to do The Odd Couple” with theater producer Jeffrey Seller, but scheduling conflicts have stood in the way.

“We should’ve been great. Kevin is my best friend. I love him to death, and the truth is is he’s so booked for the next three to five years,” he told People. “That’s his schedule, that’s a reality. I totally get it. And I love it and I respect him for that. We do Jumanji, which we’ll promote that at the end of the year, but I’m not letting that dream go.”

Noting that he, Seller and director Thomas Kail (Moana, Hamilton) are attempting to pursue another onstage opportunity, Johnson added, “So we’ll see, but maybe it’s The Odd Couple with Jeffrey. I don’t know, maybe it’s a musical and I could run around singing in keys that don’t exist. I might do a little dance. I might snatch my waist a little bit. We’ll see.”

After originating the voice role of Maui in Disney’s 2016 animated musical Moana, Johnson reprises his performance in Kail’s live-action adaptation, which is now in theaters.

Meanwhile, Johnson can next be seen reuniting onscreen with Hart in Jumanji: Open World, premiering Christmas 2026 in theaters.
