‘Ebenezer’ Trailer: Johnny Depp Unveils At Comic-Con As Scrooge – Watch
San Diego Comic-Con got a double dose of 3x Oscar nominee Johnny Depp who after showing up as Ebenezer Scrooge character on the streets of the Gas Lamp district, crashed the Collider Directors on Directing panel with the trailer for the Ti West directed holiday movie he’s starring in on Nov. 13, Ebenezer.
Hysterical is all we have to say: Depp is so method, you can’t even make out what he is saying, in complete mumble. That was apparent earlier today during his Gas Lamp appearance and we were standing less than 12 feet in front of him. After hobbling on stage with a candle (“I’m speaking Ito the candle), he handed it off to director John Francis Daley who was sitting at the end of the director’s panel and turned to the crowd, and said, ” Have you no lives? No responsibilities?”
Watch the trailer above. In looks it’s Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd, very period, very dark gothic as you’d expect a Ti West title to be, and it’s the Scrooge you’ve never seen before (sorry, Bill Murray). We have Depp’s Ebenezer sinking in a bed, throwing snow balls at a couple. It’s a very comical. The beginning credits drum up all the alter egos he’s played, i.e. Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, which have led to this. Early on in the trailer, Depp’s Ebenezer turns to the camera and beams, “It’s good to be back.”
Nathaniel Halpern adapted the Charles Dickens classic. Pic stars Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin and Daisy Ridley.
Collider pulled off a surprise trailer in its first post Covid Comic-Con panel back in 2022 when Keanu Reeves crashed the panel with the first teaser for Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4.
