Elon Musk Claims Grok Imagine Will Create “Historically Accurate” AI Version Of ‘The Odyssey’

Elon Musk‘s campaign against Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey just deepened.

The tech mogul wrote on his social media service X that his AI tool Grok Imagine would create a “full-length” feature version of Homer’s Greek myth.

“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” he wrote, sharing an AI-generated short of the story posted by an X user.

Given that Homer’s story is a work of fiction, its questionable how “historically accurate” any remake can be, but X and Tesla owner Musk has repeatedly questioned the casting of Nolan’s picture over recent months.

Musk has called out Lupita Nyong’o’s casting as Helen of Troy and supported transphobic posts about Elliot Page, who was initially rumored to be playing Achilles only to later cast as Sinon.

Musk also said he was “down” to give Mel Gibson $100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation that would be “delivered in Homeric Greek” in response to a message from an X user.

Despite Musk’s opprobrium, two-time Oscar winner Nolan’s Odyssey has been a huge box office hit globally and looks set to become the British director’s highest-grossing film. A recent global count pegged the take at $263.7M, with a huge $20M projection for Tuesday set to grow that further.

The Odyssey stars the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Nyong’o, Page, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton and John Leguizamo. The Universal pic retells Homer’s epic poem, which was written some time in the 7th or 8th Century BC.
