Ex-NBA star Damon Jones pleads not guilty to betting scam charges, allowed to walk free

Former pro basketball star  Damon Jones pleaded not guilty to charges connected to a sprawling mob-linked NBA betting scam Thursday, and will be allowed to stay free until trial, after posing $200,000 bond.

Jones entered the plea during a Brooklyn Federal Court hearing, at which his attorney told the judge he may still “be engaging in plea negotiations.”

Jones was charged with wire fraud and money laundering in the scheme, which saw the ex NBA player allegedly dropping out of games with bogus injuries.

Connected insiders would then allegedly leak the info the mobsters so they could place favorable bets on information only they had.
