Exclusive | Diane Keaton’s former spin instructor remembers ‘funny, silly’ relationship with late actress
Diane Keaton’s former spin instructor only has the best memories of the late actress.
Adam Goldstein, who taught at a spin studio in Santa Monica, Calif., says he and the “Father of the Bride” star would often chat when she and her daughter took his class every Saturday morning from around 2014 until 2019.
Sadly, he lost touch with his former client, whom he described in an Instagram post as “one of the kindest, funniest and down to earth people I have ever met in my life.”
“She would get to class early and she would stay a little late,” he tells Page Six exclusively, “We would always talk before and after class.”
Goldstein shares that he didn’t remember what they talked about, other than it was “just like, funny, silly stuff.”
Although he did remember they often chatted “about the music I’d be playing in class.”
He recalls that once he burned a CD of his workout playlist for the class, and Keaton “was so beyond appreciative that I did that….We just had a very jovial relationship.”
The fitness instructor also remembers the Oscar winner’s workout attire, which mirrored her quirky style of hats, sunglasses, and pinstriped suits.
“That was the funniest thing,” he chuckles. “At first, I think we were all like, ‘Is she really, like, going to take class in that?’ and she did. That was the funniest thing.”
Goldstein notes Keaton’s gracious manner with everyone.
“It was a solid group of us on Saturday mornings, and she was so kind to the staff, to all the other people, and the entire room knew Diane Keaton was there.”
On Sunday, Goldstein shared a sweet photo of himself with Keaton mugging for the camera, with the actress pulling on his nose and doing bunny ears behind his head.
The “Annie Hall” star died, aged 79, on Saturday.
Her unexpected passing prompted a flurry of loving remembrances on social media from colleagues like Steve Martin, Nancy Myers, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn.
A cause of death has not been disclosed, but a close friend, who saw her less than a month ago, was shocked by Keaton’s gaunt appearance.
“I was kind of stunned by how much weight she’d lost,” songwriter Carole Bayer Sager told People.
“I just loved her. She was so special, she just lit up a room with her energy. She was happy and upbeat and taking photographs of everything she saw. She was completely creative; she never stopped creating.”
Keaton’s health reportedly declined rapidly in the last few months before her death.
The “Baby Boom” star is survived by her two children: daughter Dexter and son Duke.
