Falcons wide receiver tabbed as ’emergency QB and RB’

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus is a modern day renaissance man.

Zaccheaus, who returned to the club that signed him as an undrafted free agent on a two-year deal this offseason, likely won’t receive the lion’s share of targets as he slots comfortably behind the likes of running back, Bijan Robinson, wide receiver Drake London, and tight end Kyle Pitts… but he could play some quarterback!

No, seriously.

Zaccheaus is being called upon as the emergency third-string quarterback and the emergency third-string running back for Sunday’s season-opening matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Falcons have been forced to reach deep in their bag of tricks, with Cooper Rush and Jack Strand being the only active quarterbacks on the gameday roster due to injuries to Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr.

Rush will start the game despite suffering back spasms over the weekend, Strand will serve as his backup, and Zaccheaus will be praying that they don’t both get hurt.

Atlanta’s relatively shaky running back depth will also be tested, with Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson being the only two true running backs on the active roster.

It’s going to be an interesting afternoon no matter what, but things could get really nutty if anyone goes down with an injury.
