Former Rams Pro Bowl WR announces NFL retirement on 33rd birthday
Allen Robinson hadn’t played an NFL snap since 2024.
He bounced around with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Detroit Lions, but after no team signed him last season, Robinson decided it was time to call it a career.
He announced his retirement on Instagram on Monday, which was also his 33rd birthday, with a message expressing his gratitude for his 11-year NFL career.
“As I reflect on another year of life, I find myself especially grateful; not just for where I am, but for the journey that brought me here,” Robinson wrote. “This birthday feels a little different. It marks not only another year, but the beginning of a new chapter. To every love story, there comes a final chapter. Football gave me more than I ever could’ve imagined.
“It challenged me, shaped me, humbled me, and rewarded me in ways I’ll carry for the rest of my life. I came, I saw, I conquered and I leave with nothing but gratitude. The memories, the relationships, the victories, the lessons, they’ll stay with me forever! Thank you for every moment, every cheer, every lesson, and every opportunity.”
Robinson ends his career with 565 catches, 7,058 yards, and 43 touchdowns. His best season came in 2015 with the Jaguars; he totaled 80 receptions, 1,400 yards, and 14 touchdowns.
Robinson had two more 1,000-yard seasons — both with the Bears, and both were Pro Bowl-caliber seasons. He logged 98 catches, 1,147 yards, and even touchdowns in 2019, and 102 catches, 1,250 yards, and six touchdowns in 2020.
After suffering a season-ending foot injury with the Rams in 2022, Robinson’s career never rebounded. He retires having made one Pro Bowl and leading the NFL in touchdown catches once.
