Fortnite Server Status: Are Servers Down Today and When Will Fortnite Be Back?
Fortnite servers went offline on Thursday, Oct. 1, as Epic Games rolled out the v42.30 update and launched its annual Fortnitemares Halloween event. Players trying to log in were met with errors such as “Servers Not Responding,” but the outage was planned, not a surprise crash.
Epic said downtime would begin at 4 a.m. ET, with matchmaking disabled shortly beforehand. Status trackers now show Fortnite running normally, though some players may still hit connection or update problems.
Are Fortnite Servers Down Today?
Not anymore, based on Epic’s public status page. It lists login, matchmaking, game services and the item shop as operational. Epic’s Fortnite community page has also published the v42.30 patch notes for Battle Royale, Fortnite OG, Reload, LEGO Fortnite and other modes, which suggests the update has gone live.
Players who tried to connect during the maintenance window were most likely running into the expected shutdown, not a problem with their own account or internet. That distinction matters, because no fix was needed on the player’s side while the servers were offline.
How Many Fortnite Outage Reports Were Filed?
Third-party trackers logged user complaints during the downtime. IsDown said it had received eight Fortnite reports in the previous 24 hours as of its latest check at 10:35 a.m. UTC on Oct. 1. Those reports included “Servers Not Responding” messages and connection problems.
Entireweb Status recorded 77 problem reports over the previous 24 hours, including four in its latest one-hour period. Reports came from several countries, among them the U.S., Germany, Sweden, France and India.
These figures come from user-reporting sites and are not an official count of affected players.
What Are Players Saying?
IsDown’s report log included a U.S. player who said the game showed “Servers Not Responding” and prompted a retry. Other recent reports mentioned failed connections and matchmaking trouble.
Because the downtime was scheduled, many of those errors were likely tied to the maintenance window.
What Has Epic Games Said?
The Fortnite Status account announced that downtime would start at 4 a.m. ET (8 a.m. UTC), with matchmaking ending shortly before. Epic did not guarantee an exact time for servers to return.
The company’s status page now shows core services as operational, and the v42.30 notes are live on the Fortnite community page.
When Will Fortnite Be Back?
The maintenance was expected to last about two hours. Early reports tracking the update pointed to a return around 6 a.m. ET on Oct. 1, although Epic gave no firm promise. Current trackers show the game operating normally.
What Can Fortnite Players Do If They Still Can’t Connect?
Start by checking the Epic Games Public Status page to see whether any services are down. If everything shows as operational, try these steps:
If problems continue, Fortnite’s official status channels can show whether Epic has flagged a separate issue.
What’s New in Fortnite v42.30?
The update kicks off Fortnitemares 2026, the game’s yearly Halloween event. It brings Halloween-themed content, a new seasonal loot pool and gameplay changes across several modes.
Once the game is patched, players can jump back into matches and try out the new content.
