France’s Les Arcs Film Festival Sets Spain As Country Of Focus
The Les Arcs Film Festival has set Spain as the Country of Focus for its 18th edition running from December 12 to 19 in the French Alps.
Under the focus, the festival will spotlight Spanish cinema in its programming while Spanish talent and projects will be showcased in different strands of the Les Arcs Industry Village, including its Coproduction Village and Works in Progress event.
The choice of Spain follows a high-profile Cannes Film Festival for the country’s cinema industry with three films in the Main Competition – including La Bola Negra for which Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo won the Best Director prize.
A total of 15 Spanish films played across the Official Selection and parallel sections, with Spanish actress and director Aina Clotet also picking up the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award for film Viva which debuted in Critics’ Week.
The Les Arcs focus is organized in partnership with ICAA – Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales – which will bring a delegation of film industry professionals to the festival and Industry Village.
Les Arcs already has a strong connection with Spain having recently showcased projects such as Strange River by Jaume Claret Muxart (Venice Orizzonti 2025), Foremost by Night by Victor Iriarte (Giornate degli Autori 2023) and Yo no moriré de amor by Marta Matute (Málaga 2026). It also supported the debut and sophomore features of Berlinale Golden Bear winner Carla Simon and Mar Coll (Salve Maria) in earlier editions, while Spanish-French director Oliver Laxe was a special guest at the 2025 edition.
The Coproduction Village will gather a selection of 18 European projects in development seeking new partners. The selected projects will compete for the €20,000 Eurimages Co-production Development Award. Submissions are free until July 15, with the call closing on July 29.
