‘Hacks’ Was Only Allowed 10 People In Louvre For Final Day Of Filming

SPOILERS: This post contains details about the Hacks series finale

With Hacks bidding au revoir in tonight’s series finale, the cast and creators looked back at their final day of filming, which took place at an iconic locale.

In the HBO Max series’ post-show Bit by Bit, Jean Smart recalled only being allowed to work with a skeleton crew during the final day of filming the finale episode at the Louvre in Paris, which her character Deborah Vance rents out for her writer and friend Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder).

“We were only allowed to have 10 people, total, in the space,” said Smart. “Keith [Sayer], my makeup artist, wasn’t even allowed in. So, I said, ‘I think I need a little bit of powder.’ Lucia [Aniello, series co-creator] got so excited. She goes, ‘Oh, let me do it!’

Einbinder recalled, “I had this moment in the Louvre with Lucia, where she was like, ‘This is like the last day you’re gonna be Ava.’ And I was like, ‘What?!’”

Noting that she and Einbinder see their characters as their friends, Smart recounted filming their final scene. “The moment where Lucia said, ‘that’s a wrap,’ we were in this giant hall, just the two of us, on our backs. That was it,” she said.

Directed by Aniello from a script written by Aniello and her co-creators Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky, ‘Hacks (Finale)’ follows Deborah and Ava on their getaway to Europe, for which Deb reveals some heartbreaking ulterior motives. The entire series is now available to stream on HBO Max.
