Helicopter Crashes in New York’s Hudson River, Multiple People Dead

Several people have died in a helicopter crash in New York City.

The New York City Fire Department told NBC News April 10 they received a call of a helicopter in the Hudson River at around 3:15 p.m. local time. Six people were on board the aircraft, which is believed to be a tourist helicopter, and at least four are deceased, three senior New Jersey and New York law enforcement officials told the outlet.

The FAA confirmed the crash, noting the helicopter is a Bell 206 model, and adding in a statement that it’s investigating the incident along with the National Transportation Safety Board.

At least four people were removed from the water as the helicopter— came to rest near the Holland Tunnel ventilation shaft on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, according to three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter, per NBC News. The conditions of the people were not known.

Videos shared on social media showed the helicopter upside down in the river. Avi Rakesh, who posted footage from the crash site on X, said he saw the helicopter going south toward New Jersey when “the chopper blade flew off.”
