Incest dad who raped teen daughter before baby found dead on California road is finally snared
The father accused of sexually abusing and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter has finally been captured after nearly a month on the run — with the pair found together in Mexico.
Sergio Galvez Perez, 38, was located alongside his daughter Diana Galvez Ortega during an operation involving the FBI and Mexican authorities, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed late Sunday.
Ortega was safely recovered and is being treated as a victim in the case, officials said.
Perez is the biological father of both the teenage girl and her newborn son, whom authorities have referred to as “Baby Angelita” or “Angelito.”
The infant was found dead on a roadside in northern Monterey County on Aug. 1, setting off the investigation that ultimately led authorities to issue an Amber Alert for Ortega.
The body was found in the remote 100 block of Struve Road, according to authorities.
Investigators had been searching for Perez and Ortega for weeks after authorities alleged the father had abused his daughter and fathered her child.
It is not immediately clear where in Mexico the two were found.
Authorities also said Perez was found in possession of narcotics when he was apprehended. Officials have not said what type of drugs he allegedly had or how he obtained them.
The development marks a dramatic break in a case that prompted hundreds of tips from members of the public after the Amber Alert was issued.
The white Nissan Altima authorities believed was connected to the pair was located in Monterey County days after the alert was issued. The vehicle had no license plates and was subsequently removed from the list of items being sought.
Perez is accused of multiple felony offenses involving Ortega, including incest, lewd or lascivious acts involving a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment and child endangerment.
Authorities have stressed that Ortega is a victim of her father’s alleged abuse.
“Our priority is to ensure that this young girl is safe and has access to the support and services she needs,” the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office previously said.
The case drew widespread attention after the discovery of the infant and the subsequent hunt for the father and daughter.
Perez, who is reportedly a Mixtec musician who performs under the name El Aguila Real y su Ritmo Sabroso, had remained the focus of the criminal investigation while authorities worked to locate Ortega and ensure her safety.
