Internet obsessed with puppy’s haircut transformation: ‘how is he real?’

A Pomeranian crossed with a toy poodle went to the groomer for the first time, and the transformation has left the internet in stitches.

Elina Reimche (@teddytheduke), 31, from Berlin, Germany, shared a video of her freshly groomed pooch, Teddy, who “looks like he gave up drinking.” The post of his cut has garnered 285,200 likes and 1.6 million views on TikTok.

“To be honest, I was really nervous before the appointment because it was Teddy’s first time at the groomer’s. But he was a real trooper and handled it perfectly,” Reimche told Newsweek.

“When we saw his new look and compared it to how he looked before, the glow-up was incredible. I immediately thought he looked so clean and proper—almost as if he had given up drinking!”

The video showcased Teddy’s dramatic before-and-after transformation, with the puppy appearing much tidier post-trim. Reimche explained that the groomer’s staff were very accommodating, allowing her to stay with Teddy throughout the session to ensure he was comfortable.

The response to his new natural look—with Teddy’s fur trimmed to an even length all over—was overwhelmingly positive, with many people commenting that he now resembles a distinguished gentleman.

Reimche found it particularly amusing that Teddy seemed to adopt a new personality along with his haircut. He suddenly appeared more confident and less playful, almost as if he recognized his polished appearance and decided to act the part.

Teddy is an 8-month-old Pomapoo puppy, the offspring of a toy poodle father and a Pomeranian mother.

Reimche and her fiancé have had him since he was four months old and were instantly smitten.

“He is the sweetest little dog but also quite mischievous. Just yesterday, he destroyed my GHD flat iron, but it’s impossible to stay mad at him when he gives you those puppy eyes,” Reimche added.

As Teddy’s fur has already started growing back, the dog mom expects another grooming session will be needed in about eight weeks. In the meantime, she and her fiancé have developed a fun habit of counting how many people approach them when they walk Teddy.

The current record is 17, set during a visit to a shopping center. Strangers frequently comment that he looks like a teddy bear and when they hear his name always react with a knowing smile, saying: “Well, that fits!”

TikTokers were quick to react to Teddy’s transformation.

“Oh my gosh. He’s so cute! How is he real?,” commented one viewer of the video.

“The wiggly ear is honestly one of the best things I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Lauren, referring to the dog’s twitching ear.

“Sobriety suits him,” joked another viewer.

“This isn’t Teddy, it’s Theodore,” said Karen, prompting Reimche to reply, “Theodore, Duke of Fluffington.”

“He kinda looks like Will Ferrell,” joked Lisa.

“In the first clip he looks like Frank Gallagher in a very cute way,” added Trish, referring to the character in the comedy Shameless.
