iOS 27 Release Date: Apple’s New iPhone Update Arrives Sept. 14 With AI Siri, New Features and Customization

Apple is getting ready to roll out iOS 27, its latest major software update for the iPhone, with one feature in particular expected to get most of the attention: the long-awaited AI-powered Siri.

iOS 27 will be released on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, just days after Apple unveiled its latest iPhone lineup. The update will bring the new Siri AI experience alongside a range of visual changes, customization options and smaller quality-of-life improvements.

The release also comes ahead of the Sept. 18 launch of the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will ship with iOS 27.

How to Upgrade to iOS 27

The update will be available as a free software update for compatible iPhone models. Users can check for it by going to Settings> General > Software Update once Apple begins the rollout.

AI Siri Finally Arrives

The biggest change in iOS 27 is the arrival of Apple’s redesigned AI-powered Siri.

After a lengthy delay, Siri AI is finally coming to users — but initially as a beta feature. Apple is starting with English-language devices, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support expected to arrive in October.

The new Siri is designed to understand more natural requests and work with information across apps, rather than simply answering basic questions or performing isolated commands.

Apple has also emphasized privacy as part of its AI strategy, with some processing handled on-device and other tasks using Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.

However, there is an important catch for some users. Reports indicate that AI Siri will not initially be available in the European Union or China, where regulatory and feature-availability restrictions remain an issue.

iOS 27 Gets More Customization

iOS 27 isn’t only about AI. Apple is also giving users more control over how the iPhone looks.

One of the more noticeable additions is a new Liquid Glass opacity slider. Users can adjust the appearance of the interface between a clearer and more frosted look, giving them greater control over the visual style introduced with Apple’s recent redesign.

Apple is also refreshing the icons of several built-in apps, with subtle changes to their colors and appearance.

Bigger Widgets and New Lock Screen Options

iOS 27 also expands widget customization with support for extra-large widgets.

The Lock Screen is getting more flexibility, too. Users will be able to resize the clock, including making the time display significantly smaller.

Another practical change is separate volume controls. Instead of having one setting cover everything, users can independently adjust volume for ringtones, alarms, timers, alerts and system sounds.

Which iPhones Will Get iOS 27?

The iOS 27 update is expected to support the same broad range of iPhones that currently support iOS 26, including models dating back to the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE.

However, not every iPhone will get every new Apple Intelligence feature. The availability of advanced AI functions depends on the hardware inside the device, meaning owners of older iPhones may receive iOS 27 without access to the full Siri AI experience.
