Is BLACKPINK’s Lisa Finally Revealing Her Unseen Side? ‘Always Lalisa’ Documentary Release Date Announced [CHECK OUT]

BLACKPINK’s Lisa is giving fans a closer look at the woman behind the global superstar image. The K-pop icon is set to headline her own documentary, Always Lalisa, which will explore her journey as a solo artist, her creative evolution and her growing presence beyond music.

Lisa announced the documentary’s theatrical release date through her official Instagram account on Thursday, Sept. 3, sharing the film’s official poster and revealing that Always Lalisa will arrive in theaters on Oct. 12, 2026.

Directed by Sue Kim, the documentary will initially receive a theatrical release before becoming available on YouTube. Fans will be able to book tickets beginning September 9 through the documentary’s official website.

Lisa’s New Documentary Promises a Look Behind the Superstar

The poster immediately drew attention to Lisa’s unmistakable stage image. The BLACKPINK member appears in a black, gemstone-studded crop top, paired with her signature forehead bangs and long ponytail.

She is also wearing her in-ear monitors, a familiar part of her performance setup and a subtle detail that reflects the documentary’s focus on her life as a performer.

Rather than simply revisiting Lisa’s biggest achievements, Always Lalisa is expected to explore the changes she experienced while establishing herself independently from BLACKPINK. The film will look at the personal and creative challenges that came with developing her identity as a solo artist during the group’s hiatus.

For fans who have followed Lisa since her BLACKPINK debut, the documentary could offer a different perspective on the artist behind the highly polished performances, music videos and global campaigns.

From ‘LALISA’ to ‘Alter Ego’

Lisa officially launched her solo career in 2021 with her debut single “LALISA”, which quickly became one of the defining releases of her individual career.

She expanded that solo identity with her 2025 album Alter Ego, taking on different musical and visual concepts while establishing a sound and image separate from her work with BLACKPINK.

Always Lalisa will reportedly take viewers behind the scenes of the making of Alter Ego, offering insight into the creative process surrounding the project and the work that went into shaping Lisa’s solo musical direction.

The documentary therefore arrives at an interesting point in her career. Lisa is no longer simply being introduced as a BLACKPINK member pursuing solo activities; she has developed a substantial individual career spanning music, fashion, performance and acting.

Lisa’s Acting Journey Gets the Spotlight

However, the music will not be the documentary’s only focus. Always Lalisa will also explore Lisa’s experience working on the third season of HBO’s dark comedy series The White Lotus. The 2025 season marked her acting debut and introduced the K-pop star to audiences in a completely different role.

Her transition from the stage to the screen represented another major step in Lisa’s efforts to expand her creative career. The documentary is expected to show how she navigated that new experience while continuing to develop her identity as a solo performer.

The combination of music and acting could give viewers a broader picture of Lisa’s ambitions beyond BLACKPINK and show how she has approached different forms of entertainment.

‘Always Lalisa’ Gets Major Film Festival Premiere

Before its theatrical release, Always Lalisa will receive an important international showcase.

Sony Music Vision announced on July 20 that the documentary will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 18. The festival appearance allows the film to reach audiences beyond the K-pop community before its wider theatrical run begins.

The Toronto premiere also adds another milestone to what has already become an increasingly diverse chapter in Lisa’s career.

Lisa Has New Music on the Way?

The documentary is arriving during an especially busy period for Lisa, who is also preparing to release more solo music.

Her upcoming EP Press Play will feature six tracks, with “SaWaDiKa” serving as the first release. The song draws on Lisa’s Thai heritage, adding another personal element to her latest musical chapter.

The single is scheduled for release on Sept. 4, 2026, at 8 am PHT, while the full Press Play EP is expected to arrive on Oct. 23.

That means fans will have plenty of Lisa content between the release of “SaWaDiKa”, the Toronto premiere of Always Lalisa, the documentary’s theatrical release and the arrival of her new EP.

Lisa’s expanding solo career comes as BLACKPINK enters its second decade. The group celebrated its 10th anniversary on Aug. 8, 2026, while all four members have continued developing their individual careers alongside their group activities.

JENNIE recently released “FALLEN ANGEL”, while JISOO has been preparing for her upcoming solo release “CLICK”. ROSÉ and Lisa have likewise continued to establish their own musical identities.

For Lisa, however, the journey has extended beyond music. Her work on The White Lotus, her solo albums and her growing involvement in international projects have allowed her to explore different sides of her artistry.

Now, Always Lalisa promises to bring those experiences together in one film.

With its Toronto premiere, October theatrical release and eventual YouTube availability, the documentary is set to give fans an intimate look at Lisa’s evolution from BLACKPINK’s youngest member into a global solo performer with ambitions that extend far beyond the K-pop stage.
