Snow Patrol musician Johnny McDaid has reportedly entered a new relationship months after quietly ending his decade-long romance with actress Courteney Cox, according to the Daily Mail on Saturday, which says the couple separated late last year after growing apart while living on different continents.

“Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much,” a source close to the couple told The Mail.

“This was not an ugly split. They had simply reached a point where they were living different lives,” the source added. Representatives for Cox and McDaid have not publicly commented on the reported breakup.

A relationship shaped by distance

Cox, 62, is best known for playing Monica Geller on the hit sitcom Friends. She is primarily based in Los Angeles. McDaid, 49, who was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, has spent much of his time in London while continuing his work with Snow Patrol and as a songwriter.

The pair were introduced in 2013 through mutual friends, including Ed Sheeran, one of McDaid’s longtime collaborators. Their relationship quickly became serious, and they announced their engagement in 2014.

They briefly split in late 2015 but reconciled the following year. Cox later said she was “thankful” for that breakup because it helped improve their relationship, while McDaid previously described himself as “lucky” to be with her.

Although they often divided their time between the United States and the United Kingdom, the long-distance nature of their relationship reportedly became part of the reason they eventually drifted apart.

McDaid joined Snow Patrol in 2011 and has built a major career outside the band as a songwriter and producer.
