Jacob Misiorowski makes MLB history with 200 strikeouts
With a four-seam fastball to strike out Minnesota Twins right fielder Alan Roden, Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski recorded his 200th strikeout of the season in 129 1/3 innings. Misiorowski is now the second-fastest pitcher in MLB history to reach that mark in a single season.
Misiorowski finished his 22nd start of the season with nine strikeouts against the Twins. The 24-year-old right-hander leads all of MLB with 204 strikeouts, while Cleveland Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams ranks second in MLB with 185 in 24 starts.
According to Elias Sports Bureau, Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider is the only other pitcher in MLB history to reach 200 strikeouts faster than Misiorowski in a single season.
Strider threw his 200th strikeout of the season in 123 1/3 innings in 2023. Strider also reached 200 strikeouts in 130 innings in 2022, which ranks as the third-fastest in MLB history.
Misiorowski Is The Favorite to Win The NL Cy Young Award
In just the second season of his MLB career, Misiorowski is the favorite to win the National League Cy Young Award.
The two-time NL All-Star led MLB’s latest Cy Young Award polls with 161 total vote points and 30 of 33 first-place votes. Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Cristopher Sánchez finished second in the polls with 113 total vote points and one first-place vote.
This season, Misiorowski has posted a career-best 1.76 ERA in 133 innings. He also threw his first career complete game, one-hit shutout against the Phillies in June.
