Jon Fletcher’s ‘The Dosage Makes the Poison’ Experimental Directorial Debut Wraps 7-Day Shoot
What started as a social media experiment, writer/director/star Jon Fletcher has wrapped his feature debut The Dosage Makes the Poison.
Fletcher (who has acted on Bosch, The Rook, The Messengers) completed the seven-day shoot, documenting videos of the entire process, after setting the unconventional experiment into motion with a social media post on Aug. 1, 2025.
“Can I make a feature film in 50 days, completely from nothing, and get it into Sundance?” Fletcher asked on Instagram.
Having completed filming, Fletcher said, “I can’t even explain it. I just woke up and did it. Then I don’t think I slept for the past 6 weeks.” He hopes the project encourages discourse on the evolving landscape of filmmaking, in addition to inspiring other artists to create “without waiting for permission.”
Starting from scratch with no script or even a concept on Day 1, Fletcher invited followers along on the ride to help him refine his creative process, resulting in a self-starring film that explores his own deeply personal experiences with depression.
“I hadn’t seen anything about what depression felt like to me. Fighting for yourself, against yourself,” explained Fletcher. “It’s unlike anything else. Because no one else can hear it. No one else can see it. No one can participate but you. And it’s the most dangerous and deadly conversation you can have, because nobody listens to you the way you listen to yourself.”
Written and directed by Fletcher, Beth Riesgraf served as DP. The film is produced by Fletcher and Riesgraf, with executive producers Jeremy Landon Hays, Louis Pannullo and Hunter G. Davis.
Fletcher is represented by Industry Entertainment.
