Jude Law To Star In Action Feature Penned By Zach Baylin

Ben Jackson and Katie Sinclair of Riff Raff Entertainment were keynote speakers this afternoon at the Karlovy Film Festival’s industry sidebar, where they discussed their boutique label, which Jackson launched with Jude Law in 2017, including some of the projects on their slate.

Jackson told the industry audience at KV that Riff Raff is currently in development on two projects with the writer Zach Baylin, who previously worked with the company and Law on Black Rabbit and The Order.

“One is a TV show that we’re doing. I can’t really tell you about that, but it’ll be good. And then we’ve got a film that was an idea that Jude and I had, which is basically a very simple idea about a getaway driver who wants to get from A to B to C, and there are a lot of things in his way,” Jackson said.

Jackson continued to say that the idea for the film originated from Jude’s pleasurable experience working on The Order

“We had a lot of car chases in that, and he had a lot of fun doing it, so when he came out of that, we brainstormed an idea, and Zach’s now written a pretty great script.”

Jackson and Sinclair spoke at length during the keynote in KV about their company’s operations. The pair said the company currently has 50 projects on its slate at various stages of development.

Sinclair continued to add that around 30 of those projects are “fully fledged and out to financiers” while the rest are still in the nascent stages of development.

“About 15 films and 15 TV fully fledged projects,” Sinclair said.

Riff Raff also employs 7 full-time staffers. On the film side, Jackson said the company is primarily interested in producing projects for cinemas.

“It’s not about making a film that just goes straight to streaming. That is key for us,” he said.

On the TV side, Sinclair said Riff Raff is not interested in “regular terrestrial television.”

“No disrespect to it, but I think whether in the UK and U.S. buyers see us and see a project from us, they’ll expect it to have an element of elevation to it and be in that kind of high-end space,” she said.

Sinclair also revealed that Riff Raff is currently working on a feature project with Laura Carreira following her breakout debut project On Falling.

“That’s an exciting one because it’s a UK-Portuguese co-production,” Sinclair said. “So we’re partnering with a local production services company in Portugal, but also the story is set in Portugal. We obviously want it to be authentic, so we’d want that producer to be involved creatively, as well as just providing physical services. So we’re open to European co-productions, and actively encourage them.”

Karlovy Vary‘s industry forum ends on July 9.
