Kane breaks England World Cup scoring record

Harry Kane became England’s outright leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history after scoring his 11th tournament goal during the Three Lions’ 2-0 victory over Panama in their final Group L match at the 2026 World Cup.

The England captain moved clear of Gary Lineker’s long-standing record of 10 World Cup goals, helping his side secure top spot in Group L and continue their unbeaten run into the Round of 32.

Jude Bellingham opened the scoring before providing the assist for Kane’s landmark goal, as England wrapped up another composed performance ahead of the knockout rounds.

Kane’s latest strike added another milestone to an already remarkable international career. The striker won the Golden Boot with six goals at the 2018 World Cup before adding two more in Qatar in 2022. His goal against Panama took his career World Cup tally to 11, making him England’s leading scorer in the tournament’s history.

Kane became the first England player to score 11 World Cup goals, surpassing Lineker’s record that had stood for more than three decades.

After the match, Kane reflected on the achievement. According to the BBC Sport, Kane said: “It’s a special milestone. Gary Lineker has been a legend for England for so many years, so to surpass his record is something I’m incredibly proud of.”

England’s victory over Panama secured first place in Group L and maintained their impressive form heading into the knockout stage. Bellingham controlled proceedings from midfield, while Kane once again delivered when his team needed him, continuing his reputation as one of the game’s most prolific tournament goalscorers.

The Three Lions now advance to the Round of 32 as one of the tournament favourites, with Kane’s goals expected to remain central to their hopes of lifting a first World Cup title since 1966. The World Cup record adds to Kane’s growing collection of England milestones.

He already holds the record as England’s all-time leading men’s international goalscorer with 82 goals and has now established himself as the country’s most prolific player on football’s biggest stage.

At 32, Kane also joins an elite group of players to have reached double figures in World Cup goals, further strengthening his legacy as one of England’s greatest-ever forwards.
