Key piece for Longhorns' Final Four team hits transfer portal
AUSTIN (KXAN) – Coming off its first trip to the Final Four in more than two decades, the Texas women’s basketball team seems to be set for another great chance to do the same next year.
The Longhorns are returning much of their roster that took them to Tampa this year, including point guard Rori Harmon. However, a key piece for Texas last year seems destined for a new squad.
Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda is entering the transfer portal after three years in Austin. The South Dakota native started 15 games for the Longhorns her junior season.
The 6-foot-2 guard excelled defensively with above-average length. Mwenentanda set a career best this past year in nearly every statistical category. She posted a career-high 19 points against Illinois in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
She joins Abbie Boutilier and Jordana Codio as other members of the Texas women’s basketball team to enter the transfer portal.
Shay Holle and Taylor Jones graduated, but Texas head coach Vic Schaefer is already rebuilding his roster with two transfer signees, Breya Cunningham and Lovisa Asbrink Hose.
