Kim Kardashian re-creates iconic Elizabeth Taylor outfit for ‘All’s Fair’ Season 2
All’s fair in love and wardrobe departments.
Season 2 of “All’s Fair” is almost here and Kim Kardashian is, again, bringing some of her own closet to set for her on-screen character, Allura Grant.
In Hulu’s sneak peek, at least one of Kardashian’s chosen looks actually originated on another celeb: Elizabeth Taylor.
Kardashian wears a black velvet hooded cape with two embellished scorpions on the chest as well as the hidden back of the hood, with the interior lined with a bright ivory silk.
At one point during the season’s trailer, Sarah Paulson’s character Carrington Lane also dons the piece of history, suggesting the wardrobe department may have made multiples for the purpose of the show.
Designed by Tiziani Roma, the original “Scorpio Evening Cape” was worn by Taylor to Grace Kelly’s 40th birthday party in 1969.
She accessorized it with the famous Taylor-Burton Diamond necklace, with a drop that measures in at 69.42 carats.
It was a diamond that in 1979, after the couple’s divorce, Taylor sold to Mouawad for $5,000,000 to help finance the construction of a hospital in Botswana.
The event was titled the “Scorpio Ball,” as it was the princess’ zodiac sign (as well as Taylor’s husband Richard Burton’s).
As it happens, with an October 21 birthday, Kardashian misses the Scorpio window by just two days.
The cape was auctioned off in 2011 by Christie’s as part of a massive Elizabeth Taylor Collection sale, selling for $60,000 plus the buyer’s premium, which amounted to a cool $74,500.
It’s unclear whether Kardashian was the winner of the item at the time, or she purchased it privately after the fact — or simply re-created the iconic look. However, she seems to also have added a version of the sparkling necklace, too, for the scene.
According to the listing on the auction website, “At this time, Karl Lagerfeld was Tiziani’s freelance designer, and this cape may well be one of his designs.”
Last season, Kardashian brought not only some of her own archival and vintage pieces to Grant’s wardrobe, but also a slew of both real and faux Hermès Birkin bags to solidify her character’s elite look.
With only a few short clips in the released trailer, it’s clear the fashion-loving Calabasas native is ready to take Allura Grant’s wardrobe to more iconic heights for Season 2.
