Krakow Shooting Suspect: What We Know As More Victims Discovered
A Polish man with far-right views drove into Kraków’s busy central square on Saturday and opened fire, killing six people and injuring at least 16 others before police shot and injured him, authorities said.
Hours after the attack, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said authorities found three bodies inside the suspect’s home in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, a town about 150 kilometers (93 miles) northeast of Kraków.
Police on Sunday confirmed the bodies were of the suspect’s 53-year-old father, 52-year-old mother and 21-year-old sister.

The 25-year-old suspect’s name has not been released, but Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said the man holds “very radical” and “ultranationalistic” views.
“Everything indicates that he was fascinated by far-right ideologies,” Kierwiński said at a news conference.
The attack happened in the Main Market Square, located in in the heart of Krakow’s Old Town and a major tourist hub in the city.
Police said the rampage began at around 3.p.m., when the attacker drove to several spots in the square and opened fire at each stop with an automatic weapon.
An officer shot and injured him during a confrontation before taking him into custody. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
What Officials Said
The attacker wore military-style fatigues and a bulletproof vest, and used a military-type long gun, Kraków police spokesperson Katarzyna Cisło said.
Police found other weapons and ammunition in his car. He kept firing at the police even after being shot himself, she said.
Cisco said the attacker engaged in a “wild ride” around the square, which is why people were wounded at several locations. He added the gunman appears to have acted alone.
Videos posted on social media of the attack show people running from the square to take cover on nearby streets, as well as first responders trying to resuscitate victims.
In one video, a police officer can be seen repeatedly shooting the suspect, who is lying on the street, before slowly falling to the ground himself.
What We Know About The Victims
Four women and two men were killed in the attack on the square.
At least three of the women were Polish, and one of the dead was a U.K. citizen, authorities said. Police were still trying to identify the other two people who were killed.
A total of 13 people were hospitalized in serious condition, authorities said. That number may include the gunman, who underwent surgery after the attack.
It’s unclear how many of the injured were shot. Two of them were treated and released within hours of the mass shooting.
Two police officers were seriously injured, Kierwiński said.
