‘La La Land’ 10th Anniversary Concert Happening at Venice Film Festival
EXCLUSIVE: The tenth anniversary of La La Land will be celebrated at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival – La Biennale de Venezia with La La Land in Concert as part of the fest’s Cartier Cinema Club programming.
The Damien Chazelle directed the 14x Oscar nominated, 6x winning film which made waves at the box office for an original feature musical racking up over half billion worldwide made its world premiere in Venice ten years ago. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone respectively star as a pianist and actress who follow their passion and achieve success in their fields, but find themselves torn between their love for each other and their careers.
The event is presented in collaboration with Lionsgate and Hurwitz Concerts. The evening will feature a live musical performance of the soundtrack alongside a showing of the film on screen. Chazelle, who won an Oscar for directing the movie will be in attendance. Justin Hurwitz, who won the Oscar for the pic’s original score, will conduct the Orchestra Regionale Filarmonia Veneta, joined by pianist Randy Kerber, who also performed on the original soundtrack recording.
The event will take place at Teatro La Fenice, the iconic Venetian cultural institution, honouring the craft behind La La Land‘s award-winning score and the artists whose work helped create one of cinema’s most beloved musicals.
The Maison Cartier supports several initiatives which aim to protect the living heritage of Venice and to contribute to the continuing development of its cultural life. La La Land in Concert will be free of charge. Tickets go on sale Aug. 4 at the Teatro La Fenice website.
Says Hurwitz, “To conduct an orchestra along with La La Land, in Venice where the world first saw La La Land ten years ago, is an absolute dream come true.”
The special presentation of La La Land in Concert also continues Maison Cartier’s support for the work of Fondazione Teatro la Fenice, and its upcoming season of opera, ballet and concerts.
Lionsgate is re-releasing the movie on Aug. 16. Also, La La in Concert will take place in Los Angeles at the Greek Theatre on Aug. 1, the last stop of Hurwitz’s tour (which is currently sold out). Lionsgate has a La La Land stage play targeted for Broadway from Wicked producer Marc Platt.
In addition to Chazelle for director and Hurwitz for original score, La La Land won Best Original Song and Best Actress for Stone.
