Lindsay Clancy Update: Hearing Concludes Without New Trial Date After Killer Mom’s Lawyer Calls for Case to be Thrown Out

Lindsay Clancy’s hearing concluded Tuesday, but the court has not yet set a new trial date. It was Clancy’s first court hearing since her murder trial ended in a hung jury earlier this month. She is now expected to return to court on Nov. 2, when the judge said both sides should be ready to discuss and select a date for the retrial.

However, Clancy’s defense took a dramatic turn earlier in the day. Attorney Kevin Reddington argued that the murder charges against Clancy, 36, should be thrown out. He claimed for the first time that there is a “total and complete lack of evidence” that she killed her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old.

Shock U-Turn

The nearly two-month trial this summer included graphic testimony and evidence, with Clancy formally agreeing to a set of facts that included an admission that she strangled her young children to death.

Reddington also slammed members of the public and politicians who, he said, had condemned Clancy without understanding the details of the case. “She’s a demon and possessed and should be executed,” he said, describing what he claimed some people believed.

“This is coming from politicians, from President Trump, all the way down,” he added.

Prosecutor Shanan Buckingham accused Reddington of appearing to walk back his client’s earlier admission that she killed her children.

Buckingham noted that Clancy did not dispute at trial that she killed Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old. Instead, her defense argued that she should not be held criminally responsible because she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis at the time.

Clancy has admitted killing her three children in 2023 but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, arguing that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

After a five-week trial, jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. One juror, later identified as Michael Desronvil, refused to join the majority.

Fate Hangs in Balance

Following the September 4 mistrial, jurors waived their anonymity and spoke to the media, accusing Desronvil of failing to apply the law on reasonable doubt. Desronvil denied those claims and told NewsNation that he “didn’t have any doubts” about Clancy’s guilt based on the evidence presented at trial.

Reddington also tried to defer the next hearing data as he told Judge William Sullivan that he would not be ready to retry Clancy until June at the earliest.

The defense attorney commented after Sullivan tried to schedule a new trial date, but Reddington and prosecutor Jennifer Sprague both asked the judge to wait. “My goal is to get this thing tried as soon as possible,” Sullivan said. “I don’t want this thing to get kicked down the road, get punted.”

“I can’t do a trial before June,” Reddington replied.

Sullivan then asked both sides to come prepared to select a trial date at the next hearing on Nov. 2.
